This Maori Girls Kapa Haka costume is a delightful and inexpensive way of dressing up for a Kapa Haka event. The costume accurately replicates that worn by adults to sing, dance, and do the pois, without the expense of the intricately woven bodices and flax piupius.
Ideal for Nation Days, and primary school kapa haka groups.
The Maori Girls Kapa Haka costume is sized:
Size | Age | Chest/Waist Size | Dress Length |
Small | 2-4 | up to 23 1/2"/60cm | 58cm |
Medium | 4-6 | up to 26"/66cm | 65cm |
Large | 6-8 | up to 26 3/4"/68cm | 70cm |
XL | 8-10 | up to 29"/74cm chest up to 28 1/4"/72cm waist | 76.5cm |
2XL | 12-14 | up to 30 3/4"/78cm chest up to 30"/76cm waist | 79.5cm |
The costume includes a printed headband, a black dress with printed Red/White/Black Maori bodice and black skirt ( which has adjustable velcro closure at the back and a stretch-seam waist), and the overlaid mock piupiu skirt, which is cotton knit strips on an adjustable black elastic band.
The total effect is stunning.
The costume design was derived from the costume worn by the Otatara Cultural Club of Taradale, New Zealand. The design depicts New Zealand national bird, the Kiwi, which is surrounded by the Niho-Taniwha pattern ( dragons teeth) and the Three Baskets of Knowledge. This design was the work of three people, namely Ellen Coulter, Ngaupoko Batt, and Baden Batt. Only Baden is still alive, and he gives his unreserved consent to the costume and the Maori motifs used on them.
Note to schools: As these costumes are always in high demand, we cannot afford to have any out on approval. If you would like a sample, please order and pay for the costume(s) you require. Should you decide they are not what you require, we are very happy to receive the costume back (in original condition) for a full refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping). Many schools pay by credit card so the transaction is easy to do, and a refund is easy too.
Here's what one customer had to say about their kapa haka costume:
" Lesley, I wanted to let you know we received the costume today along with the little bag of goodies. Shelbee was so thrilled at her costume! Thank you for your follow up and help with this. Best regards, Sarah G, USA"

We also have the gorgeous Kaukura girls wearing the girls costume at their 2015 Cultural Day in Australia.
